Pastoral Care

Pastoral Care

Each of us have times in our lives when we need help.  These times may be the result of bereavement, illness or any one of life's unexpected changes.  We may need a simple, one-off opportunity to talk things over or it may be for someone to visit regularly to sustain through prolonged difficulty.

We are taught in the scriptures that the Church Family is a body, in which each of us has different gifts and skills to offer.

Many people receive support through members of their Small Group but we also have a trained Pastoral Team to offer help and caring to others in the church and wider community. They will be able to  give support, encourage, befriend and be of practical help.  Also give individual care, attention to help reduce social isolation by being good listeners and be available for the recipient to ask for prayer support and shared fellowship.

Team members are able to offer one-off or regular visits to anyone in the parish who needs companionship due to age, infirmity, illness, bereavement or being in hospital.  They will spend quality time together enabling a person to tap into God’s recourses so helping them to help themselves.  We hope that this will also encourage choice and so help facilitating solutions to practical needs.

Team members will not try to solve the recipients problems, make judgements about lifestyle and behaviour or give advice when it is not asked for.

The team are not trained in counselling or therapy but we can help to raise self confidence, reduce isolation, improve relationships and encourage involvement in new activities within the church and/or community.

As a team we seek to help increase awareness of God’s love and being part of God’s family. We are also often able to arrange home Communion if that would be helpful.

Our aim is to aid the independence and decision-making so that if necessary the recipient can ask for help from more appropriate places/people.

If you or anyone you know would like a visit, please ask--contact the church office on 01225 835835 or e-mail This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
